Responsible Gaming
Version: 1.0 | Last Updated: 30 May 2025 | Domain: lightning-link-au.app
At Lightning Link, we believe that gambling should be an enjoyable, entertaining activity. We are deeply committed to promoting responsible gaming and ensuring that our Players have access to the tools, information, and support they need to keep their gambling under control. This Responsible Gaming Policy ("Policy") forms part of our overall terms framework and should be read alongside our Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy.
If you have any concerns about your gambling or that of someone you know, please contact us at [email protected] or reach out to one of the support organisations listed in Section 6 of this Policy.
1. Our Commitment
1.1. Core Principles
Lightning Link is firmly committed to the following responsible gaming principles:
- We provide gambling services for entertainment purposes only, never as a means to generate income;
- We take active steps to prevent problem gambling and protect vulnerable individuals;
- We maintain strict age verification to prevent minors from accessing our platform;
- We provide accessible, effective player protection tools that empower Players to stay in control;
- We train our customer support team to identify signs of problem gambling and respond sensitively;
- We do not market our services to individuals who are self-excluded or who have indicated a history of problem gambling;
- We cooperate fully with regulators and responsible gambling organisations.
1.2. Gambling as Entertainment
Gambling should always be treated as a form of paid entertainment — similar to attending a sporting event or a concert. You should only ever gamble with money you can afford to lose. The house always maintains a statistical mathematical advantage over the player in the long term. No betting strategy, system, or pattern of play can overcome this inherent house edge over a sustained period.
2. Recognising Problem Gambling
2.1. What Is Problem Gambling?
Problem gambling refers to gambling behaviour that disrupts a person's personal life, financial wellbeing, or mental health. It exists on a spectrum — from occasional mild issues to severe compulsive gambling disorder. Recognising the warning signs early is the most effective way to prevent harm from escalating.
2.2. Warning Signs Checklist
Consider the following questions honestly. If you answer yes to three or more of the following, we strongly encourage you to seek help:
- Do you gamble more money than you originally planned or can afford to lose?
- Have you tried to reduce or stop gambling but found it difficult or impossible?
- Do you feel restless, anxious, or irritable when attempting to cut down on gambling?
- Do you gamble to escape from personal problems, stress, anxiety, or depression?
- Do you "chase" losses by continuing to gamble in an attempt to win back money you have lost?
- Have you lied to family members, friends, or your employer about the extent of your gambling?
- Has gambling caused financial difficulties, including borrowing money, selling possessions, or going into debt?
- Has gambling negatively affected your relationships, work, or other important areas of your life?
- Do you spend a significant amount of time thinking about gambling — replaying past sessions or planning future ones?
- Have you ever committed, considered, or been close to committing an illegal act in order to fund gambling?
If any of these signs apply to you, please contact our support team at [email protected] or reach out to a helpline listed in Section 6 below. Help is available, and you are not alone.
3. Player Protection Tools
3.1. Deposit Limits
You can set a daily, weekly, or monthly deposit limit from your Account settings at any time. Once a deposit limit is active, you will not be able to deposit funds exceeding that limit within the chosen period. Requests to reduce a deposit limit take effect immediately. Requests to increase a deposit limit are subject to a mandatory cooling-off period of at least 7 days before taking effect.
3.2. Loss Limits
Loss limits allow you to set the maximum amount you are prepared to lose within a defined time period (daily, weekly, or monthly). Once your loss limit is reached, your Account will be temporarily restricted from placing further bets until the limit period resets. As with deposit limits, reductions take effect immediately while increases are subject to a 7-day waiting period.
3.3. Session Time Limits
You can set a maximum session duration after which you will be automatically logged out of the Website. This helps prevent extended, unplanned gaming sessions. You can set session time limits from your Account settings at any time.
3.4. Reality Checks
Reality check notifications are periodic pop-up reminders displayed during your gaming session informing you of how long you have been playing and your net winnings or losses during that session. Reality checks can be set at intervals of 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes. When a reality check appears, you may choose to continue or end your session.
3.5. Cooling-Off Periods
A cooling-off period is a temporary suspension of your gambling Account for a defined period. You may request a cooling-off period of 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, or 90 days. During a cooling-off period, you will not be able to log in, deposit funds, or place bets. Cooling-off periods cannot be reversed once applied. To request a cooling-off period, contact [email protected] or use the self-management tools in your Account settings.
3.6. Self-Exclusion
Self-exclusion is a more permanent measure designed for players who feel they need a longer break or want to stop gambling altogether. Self-exclusion options available are:
- 6-month self-exclusion;
- 1-year self-exclusion;
- 5-year self-exclusion;
- Permanent self-exclusion (your Account will be permanently closed).
Once self-exclusion is applied, it cannot be reversed for the duration of the selected period. During self-exclusion, you will not receive any marketing communications from us. Any Bonus Funds in your Account will be forfeited. Your real-money Balance will be returned to your registered payment method following applicable KYC checks.
3.7. Account Closure
If at any time you wish to close your Account, you may do so permanently by contacting [email protected]. Account closure is treated as a permanent self-exclusion if that is your intention.
4. Tips for Responsible Gambling
We encourage all Players to adopt the following responsible gambling practices:
- Set a budget: Decide how much you are willing to spend before you begin a session and stick to that amount, regardless of outcomes;
- Set a time limit: Decide in advance how long you will play and use the session time limit tool to enforce it;
- Never chase losses: Accept losses as the cost of entertainment and resist the urge to place larger bets to recover them;
- Gamble sober: Avoid gambling when under the influence of alcohol or any substance that may impair your judgement;
- Take regular breaks: Step away from the screen frequently during longer sessions;
- Keep it in perspective: Treat gambling as entertainment, not as a source of income or a way to solve financial problems;
- Balance your activities: Ensure that gambling does not dominate your time or displace other enjoyable activities;
- Never borrow to gamble: Do not use borrowed funds, credit cards, or loans to finance gambling;
- Seek help early: If you feel that your gambling is getting out of control, reach out for help before the problem escalates.
5. Protection of Minors
5.1. Age Verification
Lightning Link operates a strict 18+ only policy. We employ robust age verification procedures at the point of registration and before processing any withdrawals. Players who cannot verify their age will have their Accounts suspended pending verification. Any Account found to belong to a person under 18 years of age will be immediately closed, all winnings forfeited, and deposits returned.
5.2. Parental Responsibility
We strongly urge parents and guardians to take an active role in preventing minors from accessing online gambling services. We recommend the following steps:
- Never leave a device logged into a gambling website unattended;
- Do not allow minors to use payment cards or accounts linked to gambling sites;
- Install parental control and filtering software on shared devices;
- Talk openly with children and teenagers about the risks of gambling.
5.3. Parental Control Software
The following tools can be used to block access to gambling websites for minors:
- Net Nanny (netnanny.com) – comprehensive parental control and content filtering;
- Gamban (gamban.com) – dedicated gambling-blocking software for all devices;
- BetBlocker (betblocker.org) – free, multi-device gambling blocking tool;
- Built-in OS parental controls – available on Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android.
